Ode to March

It seems this year I do not know if the snow will ever go. In March it sits here like a brick (not a brick like “you’re a brick, Dick”), I mean a brick like bricks and mortar, the kind used in the Latin Quarter. Winter hard and cold and cruel will last until the… Continue reading Ode to March

I see it happening in social media groups all the I see it happening in social media groups all the time. A writer finishes their very first novel and asks for advice and there’s always a few yahoos who tell them not to bother “wasting” their time & money hiring a professional to do a developmental edit. Just publish your work, they’re told. You don’t even need a proofreader if you’ve got the right software. This terrible advice kills potentially good or even great books before they even have a chance. This advice kills a writer’s dreams. Here’s the truth: If you want to raise the bar on your writing, you have to do the work. You have to invest in yourself with time and practice and yes - sometimes even money. Buy the books, take the courses. There’s no way around it. If you want more help, hire a book coach or work with a developmental editor. Just like you’d hire a piano teacher or a personal trainer at the gym. Professionals who love their craft and care about helping you be the best you can be.

The great yarn destash didn’t end up as big as I thought it would be, but I still released two big shopping bags-full for some lucky thrift store shopper! 🛍 and I can honestly say that I truly love every skein I kept. 🧶 Next on the chopping block... Christmas decorations! 🎄

When I did the last line edit and sent the manuscript back to her with huge congratulations last week, I never stopped to consider that I haven’t said goodbye to her characters.

It’s over. The beautiful story is told. it’s going to be a book on the shelf in all the bookstores someday and I can’t wait to see it there and buy a copy or ten.

But meanwhile…I don’t know if I’m ready to say goodbye to it yet.

Authors often go through a mourning period when the book is finally finished and ready to embark on the next step.

And now I know that book coaches do, too.

I’m going to tell you something about writers. W I’m going to tell you something about writers. When they ask you for honest feedback, they aren’t asking for a kick in the teeth. It’s not one or the other. Kindness and honesty can both ride together in the front seat. Have you ever felt kicked down by feedback? Tell me about it in the comments. Sharing makes it easier. 😘📚✍️🤦🏼‍♀️#bookcoach #bookcoaching #editing #writing #amwritingliteraryfiction #writingfiction #writingcoach #authorlife #authoraccelerator
Sometimes writers need support and sometimes peopl Sometimes writers need support and sometimes people call that handholding. Is there some arbitrary, socially acceptable level of support a writer is allowed to need before they become labeled? This is a huge pet peeve of mine because we all need support at some level, and nobody gets to judge whether you’re getting the type of support YOU need except you. Thankfully there are Book coaches for all types of writers. What type of writer are you?

But these are just for me because I was feeling a little low. I felt like I deserved a treat today and I’m thrilled with what I found! Which one do you think I should read first??? #bookcoach #bookcoachingsession #bookcoaching #writinglife #writingtips
